Nicole Carvajal en su pintura al óleo de técnica perfecta y de forma y color definidos, hace jugar un importante rol a la figura humana. En el grupo de pinturas que mostramos aquí es la mujer la gran protagonista. Nicole busca inspiración, en ella misma, y en personas del presente como del pasado, siendo la historia del arte su gran fuente de imágenes. A menudo cita pinturas conocidas como la lechera de Vermeer, grabados japoneses o alguna fuente con frutas de Picasso, cambiándoles el sentido original y agregando su humor particular. Tiende a enfrentar a las figuras de sus pinturas con el observador produciendo un interesante diálogo visual. También ha usado como referencia composiciones basadas en Gerard Dou, maestro del siglo 17. Muchas de sus pinturas tienen vistas de lugares levemente ocultos por cortinajes y el recurso de la escena dentro de la escena. The artist Nicole Carvajal communicates throug human figures. She makes oil paintings in which people play an important part. These paintings have a clear form and colour. As a painter Carvajal is always looking for people from the present and the past to inspire her. At the same time in her paintings she regularly confronts the observer with figures who bodly stare back at the observer. The history of art is an important source of inspiration for Carvajal. In her own way she uses images from this rich past: from Vermeer’s milkmaid to Japanese prints or Picasso’s bowl of fruit. Not only does she refer to figures from art history, she also refers to compositions by seventeenth century masters, for instance the fine artist Gerard Dou. Many of his paintings contain vistas, you see a room barely visible because a curtain has just been raised. This effect of a scene within a scene we also find in Carvajal’s work.
